Canadian interest in local market represented at leading Australian oil and gas conference

IN February, Australia played host to 20 Canadian delegates including representatives from oil and gas companies, the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, the Government of Alberta, and Export Development Canada.
The purpose of the visit was to learn about the Australian oil and gas industry, exchanging ideas and promoting individual services. The Canadian delegates travelled to Brisbane and Adelaide, and to Perth to attend AOG 2012.
Welcoming the delegates in Sydney, Consul General of Canada Mario Ste-Marie welcomed the opportunities that in-market trade missions could create. “This incoming mission – the third in 12 months – builds upon the successful bonds formed on previous oil and gas trade delegations,” Mr Ste-Marie.
“There are excellent synergies between Canada and Australia in these dynamic resource sectors.”
During its time in Brisbane, the Canadian delegation attended a market overview seminar by the Queensland State Government and discussions and seminars on topics including: LNG/CSG approvals; regulations and operating licences; future policies for CSG; an overview of Gladstone and other regional areas; opportunities and projects; emerging shale opportunities; and market entry strategies for partnering on projects in Queensland.
In Perth, the delegates attended a number of AOG 2012 presentations, including Safety and Integrity Management, Resourcing the Pipeline: Skills for Tomorrow, and seminars on WA’s oil and gas industry, development
of the local oil fi eld services sector, and considerations for inbound investment. The group also attended AOG 2012 networking functions, including the offi cial gala dinner.
In Adelaide, the Canadian delegates attended presentations on the South Australian gas industry as well as various networking functions.
