Project expertise with pure solutions focus

WHEN Uni-span formwork solutions director Wayne Hughes was asked recently why his clients returned to the company repeatedly, his answer was immediate.
“Uni-span provides just one product: the solution,” he said.
Uni-Span contracts manager Vaughan Bibby said he believed the keys to return clientele were service, quality, workmanshi and flexibility.
He said those elements combined to make Uni-span the obvious choice among its clients, and the types of projects the company was involved with demonstrated its capabilities and strengths.
An example of Uni-Span’s capabilities is its work at the Wiggins Island Coal Export Terminal project in Gladstone.
Uni-span was approached to offer its expertise on how best to form the project’s coal conveyor tunnels, each measuring 950 metres in length.
Many factors needed to be considered, not least the integrity of the tunnels’ waterproofing, but also the changes in direction and safety constraints that were of paramount importance to the project.
The decision-making was made easy Uni-span, Australia’s exclusive distributor of Ulma Formwork systems.
The MK System Civil Engineering Kit was chosen as the optimal system solution best suited to overcome the obstacles presented through varying gradients, and interfaces of square to curved junctions of discharge chambers throughout the tunnels.
The high moment connections between the MK Walers allowed generally less equipment to be used and larger than usual pouring platforms to be incorporated.
AGJV (Abigroup Golding Joint Venture) concluded that the versatility offered with the MK system, jointly supplied with wall formwork systems Orma and EnkoformVMK as well as slab formwork system Enkoflex, would best address these issues for this $2.5 billion project.
Uni-span was also contracted to work at the new Hamilton Harbour development inBrisbane.
Hamilton Harbour will provide a vibrant mix of retail, dining and commercial option for the convenience of residents. Devine Constructions selected Uni-span to partner with it in developing the $500 million project.
The scaffold contract for the project consisted of 7100 square metres of perimeter scaffold, 730 lineal metres of handrail and about 400t of scaffolding in total. Uni-span specialises in supplying solutions for complex structures in the domestic, commercial, industrial, civil, infrastructure, energy, oil and gas and mining sectors.
